How recurring charges are found

Grouped by merchant

Card prefixes, store numbers, reference codes, and dates are stripped from descriptions first, so twelve charges from one service with twelve different reference numbers are recognised as one merchant.

On a steady schedule

Charges count as recurring when most of the gaps between them fall in one band: weekly, every two weeks, monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Three charges are needed for the shorter schedules, two for quarterly and yearly.

Fixed or variable

A subscription at one price is told apart from a metered bill such as hosting or electricity. Variable ones are costed from their typical charge rather than the latest.

Price increases

For a fixed-price subscription, a step up or down in price is shown with the amount and the date the new price started: the change most people are looking for.

Monthly and yearly cost

Each payment is converted to a monthly and a yearly figure, and the totals update as you untick the ones you do not want counted.

Next expected charge

From each payment's usual interval, the date it should next arrive: useful for cancelling before a renewal rather than after.
