Choosing the settings

JPG

The smallest files, and what upload forms most often ask for. Right for scanned pages and anything photographic; small text can soften slightly at 72 dpi.

PNG

Lossless, so text and lines stay exactly as sharp as the render. Files are larger, which matters when a form has a size limit.

WebP

Smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and supported by current browsers and most modern apps. Older software may not open it; if your browser cannot write WebP, you get PNG and a note saying so.

Resolution

72 dpi matches a page viewed on screen and keeps files small. 150 dpi is sharp enough to read fine print. 300 dpi is print quality, and a letter-size page becomes about 2550 by 3300 pixels.

All pages or some

Convert the whole document, or type pages and ranges such as 1, 3-5. Each page becomes its own numbered image, named after the PDF.
