Excel file you download
Chase can export activity. It cannot export a statement.
Downloading activity from Chase gives you a date range you picked, which is not the same thing as the statement your accountant is reconciling against: different boundaries, no opening and closing balance to tie back to, and nothing for the months that only exist as archived PDFs. So the statement itself gets copied by hand, and a Chase checking statement is a bad thing to copy by hand: activity is printed in separate sections for deposits, checks paid, card withdrawals, electronic withdrawals, and fees, each with its own subtotal, and pasting them into a sheet gives you five blocks of text where you wanted one sortable table.
How it works
Convert a Chase statement, screen by screen
- 01
Upload the PDF
Drag in the statement exactly as Chase produced it: every page, including the ones with check images. Up to 50 MB per file.

Drop the PDF in, or forward the statement email from Chase to your private import address. - 02
Confirm the import
Review the queued file and set whether statements carrying warnings still count in your analytics. Nothing is read until you confirm.

The warning types that will still count toward analytics are named before anything is extracted. - 03
Let it parse
Each activity section is read and merged into one chronological table, and the opening balance plus the transactions is checked against the printed ending balance.

The activity panel names the stage and the seconds elapsed, so a long statement never looks stuck. - 04
Check the rows
A statement that needs a second look says so in the library before you open it. Inside, the ledger sits beside the statement page: click any row to see the printed line behind it, and fix anything that needs a human eye.

The row under review, boxed in the ledger and in the statement page it was read from. - 05
Export
XLSX for Excel, CSV for anything else, or an OFX/QBO file that imports straight into QuickBooks.

Excel selected, the columns chosen and ordered, and the rows previewed before the file is written.

How to download your Chase statement
Getting the PDF out of chase.com takes about four clicks.
- 1
Sign in at chase.com
The full statement archive lives in the browser experience rather than the mobile app.
- 2
Open the main menu, then Statements & documents
The menu icon sits in the top left. The section covers every account on your profile in one place.
- 3
Pick the account, then the year and statement
Statements are filed by year. Selecting one opens it as a PDF in a new tab.
- 4
Save the PDF
Download the whole document. A printed screenshot of the activity list is not the statement and will not reconcile.
Depending on the account type, Chase keeps up to seven years of statements online. In the Chase Mobile app the same documents sit under Profile & Settings, then Account settings and Paperless.
What you get that a copy-paste does not
Five sections, one table
Deposits and additions, checks paid, ATM and debit card withdrawals, electronic withdrawals, and fees come out as a single date-ordered table with signed amounts.
Reconciled to the printed close
Beginning balance plus the parsed transactions has to equal the ending balance Chase printed. A mismatch is raised against the page it came from rather than silently exported.
Check numbers preserved
The checks paid section keeps its check numbers in their own column, and a check listed out of sequence stays flagged as Chase printed it.
A year in one upload
Upload twelve statements at once and export them as one sheet. The Source column names the statement and account behind every row.
Chase card statements too
Freedom, Sapphire, and business card statements convert the same way, with purchases as debits, payments as credits, and the merchant resolved from the raw narration.
Scanned copies handled
A statement that came back as a scan or a photograph goes through OCR before parsing, so an emailed copy from a client still converts.
Chase statement sections, and where they land
How the printed layout maps onto the exported columns.
| On the statement | In the export |
|---|---|
| Deposits and additions | Positive amounts, with payroll and transfers in categorized rather than lumped as generic credits. |
| Checks paid | Negative amounts with the check number kept in its own column. |
| ATM and debit card withdrawals | Negative amounts, with the merchant name resolved out of the card narration. |
| Electronic withdrawals | Negative amounts, ACH reference intact in the Narration column. |
| Fees | Negative amounts categorized as bank fees, so they are easy to total separately. |
| Daily ending balance | Read for the reconciliation check, left out of the default export so nobody sums it by accident. |
FAQ
Common questions
How do I convert a Chase bank statement to Excel?
Download the statement PDF from Statements & documents at chase.com, upload it to BankFlow, let it parse and reconcile against the printed balances, review the rows, then export as XLSX. Dates come out as date cells and amounts as signed numbers.
Why not just use the CSV download Chase already offers?
Chase's download covers activity for a date range you choose, which does not line up with a statement period and carries no opening or closing balance to reconcile against. If you need the statement (for a loan file, an audit, or a clean month-end) converting the PDF is what matches.
Can I convert several months at once?
Yes. Upload as many statements as you have and export them into one sheet; a Source column records which statement and account each row came from.
Do Chase credit card statements work?
Yes. Personal and business card statements convert the same way, with purchases signed as debits and payments to the card as credits.
Can I import the result into QuickBooks?
Yes. Export as OFX/QBO and import the file in QuickBooks Online or Desktop. Reviewing and categorizing first means the categories arrive with the transactions.
Is a password-protected statement a problem?
No. Enter the password at upload and the file is parsed normally, up to 50 MB.
Converting a statement from a different bank?
The same workspace, written up for the format each bank prints.
