Deposits, withdrawals, and card activity from the statement PDF become one table with signed numeric amounts. Illustrative data.

The readable version and the official version are not the same file.

PNC shows statements two ways: an interactive on-screen replica that is easy to scroll, and the PDF that PNC itself names as the legal statement of record. Reconciliations, loan files, and audits want the PDF, and the PDF is laid out for a printer, with activity split across deposit and withdrawal sections, descriptions that wrap, and a balance summary that is not a transaction list. Virtual Wallet compounds it: Spend, Reserve, and Growth activity can arrive inside the same statement, so a careless copy-paste ends up totalling three accounts as one.

How it works

Convert a PNC statement, screen by screen

  1. 01

    Upload the PDF

Use the downloaded statement of record rather than a print of the on-screen view. Up to 50 MB, password-protected files included.

BankFlow dashboard with the empty state offering a statement upload or an email import address.
Drop the PDF in, or forward the statement email from PNC to your private import address. The run shown here is a Chase statement: the flow is identical whichever bank printed yours.
  2. 02

    Confirm the import

Review the queued file and set whether statements carrying warnings still count in your analytics. Nothing is read until you confirm.

Import dialog with chase.pdf selected, the warning policy listed, and an Import button.
The warning types that will still count toward analytics are named before anything is extracted.
  3. 03

    Let it parse

Transactions are read section by section, each account in the statement is identified, and the balances are reconciled against the printed close.

Activity panel showing a Chase statement processing, with the current stage and elapsed time.
The activity panel names the stage and the seconds elapsed, so a long statement never looks stuck.
  4. 04

    Check the rows

The library flags what needs a second look before you open the statement. Inside, the ledger sits next to the statement page with the row under review boxed in both panes, so a figure is verified by looking at it.

The statement workspace: parsed rows on the left, the source PDF on the right, one row boxed in both.
The row under review, boxed in the ledger and in the statement page it was read from.
  5. 05

    Export

XLSX for Excel, CSV for another ledger, or an OFX/QBO file QuickBooks imports directly.

Export dialog with Excel selected, the field list on the right, and a live preview of the rows.
Excel selected, the columns chosen and ordered, and the rows previewed before the file is written.

Before you convert

How to download your PNC Bank statement

The statement PDF is a few clicks in from the account you are looking at.

  1. 1

Sign on to PNC Online Banking

Online statements have to be switched on for the account before an archive exists to download.

  2. 2

Open Accounts and select the account

Statements are filed per account rather than in one central inbox.

  3. 3

Go to Account Quick View, then Statements and Documents

In the PNC Mobile app, the same list is under the More menu, then Statements and Documents.

  4. 4

Choose View PDF and save the file

The PDF is the statement of record; the interactive version on screen is a replica of it. Convert the PDF.

How much history is online depends on the product: checking and savings statements are kept for several years, credit cards for less. Statements you have already downloaded convert whatever their age.

What the parse is careful about

Virtual Wallet stays legible

Spend, Reserve, and Growth activity inside one statement is parsed as separate accounts and labelled on every row, so no total ever runs across two of them.

One signed Amount column

Deposits and withdrawals printed in separate sections come out as a single signed column (negative out, positive in) ready to SUM.

Reconciled against the printed close

Beginning balance plus parsed transactions has to match the ending balance on the page. When it does not, you get a flag naming the page rather than a plausible-looking sheet.

Real column types

Dates are date cells, amounts are numbers, and the merchant sits in its own column, so pivot tables and SUMIFs work the moment the file opens.

Recurring items named

Card and ACH narrations are resolved to a canonical merchant, so the same subscription reads identically in January and in July.

Handled like financial data

Files are processed for your account only, not used to train anything, and can be deleted once the export is downloaded.

What converts, and what you get back

Virtual WalletSpend, Reserve, and Growth activity parsed as separate accounts, each reconciled on its own balances.
Standard checking and savingsDeposits, withdrawals, checks, transfers, and fees as one signed, date-ordered table.
PNC credit cardsPurchases as debits, payments as credits, interest and fees categorized apart from spend.
Business checkingThe same rows plus a Source column, so several accounts can be exported into one sheet.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I convert a PNC bank statement to Excel?

Download the statement PDF from Statements and Documents in PNC Online Banking, upload it, let it parse and reconcile against the printed balances, review the rows beside the page, then export as XLSX.

Should I convert the PDF or the interactive statement?

The PDF. PNC treats it as the statement of record while the on-screen version is a replica, and the PDF is what an auditor, lender, or reviewer will expect the numbers to tie back to.

How is a Virtual Wallet statement handled?

Each account inside it (Spend, Reserve, Growth) is parsed and reconciled separately and labelled on every exported row, so the spreadsheet never mixes their balances.

Can I convert several months at once?

Yes. Upload as many statements as you have and export them as one sheet; the Source column records which statement and account each row came from.

Can I import the result into QuickBooks?

Yes. Export as OFX/QBO and import it in QuickBooks Online or Desktop, with the categories you applied during review already attached.

What if the parse gets a row wrong?

Fix it before exporting. The ledger supports inline edits, range selection, and bulk recategorization, and manual corrections are protected from later automated changes.

Converting a statement from a different bank?

The same workspace, written up for the format each bank prints.

Take the statement of record into a spreadsheet.

Upload a PNC statement, check the rows against the printed page, and download the file you needed.
