Deposits, withdrawals, and the daily ending balance table become one sortable set of rows with numeric amounts. Illustrative data.

The window closes long before the work is finished.

How long a Wells Fargo statement stays online depends on what kind of account it is: deposit accounts hold years of history, credit cards and lines of credit hold far less, and auto loans less again. So the moment a file goes back more than a couple of years, or covers a card the client has since closed, you are working from saved PDFs rather than a live download. Those PDFs print money in and money out in separate columns, wrap long ACH descriptions across lines, and finish with a daily ending balance table that looks like a transaction list until you sum it.

How it works

Convert a Wells Fargo statement, screen by screen

  1. 01

    Upload the PDF

Personal or business, downloaded or scanned, one month or twelve. Files up to 50 MB, password-protected ones included.

BankFlow dashboard with the empty state offering a statement upload or an email import address.
Drop the PDF in, or forward the statement email from Wells Fargo to your private import address. The run shown here is a Chase statement: the flow is identical whichever bank printed yours.
  2. 02

    Confirm the import

Review the queued file and set whether statements carrying warnings still count in your analytics. Nothing is read until you confirm.

Import dialog with chase.pdf selected, the warning policy listed, and an Import button.
The warning types that will still count toward analytics are named before anything is extracted.
  3. 03

    Let it parse

The deposits and withdrawals columns are merged into one signed Amount, and the beginning balance plus transactions is checked against the printed ending balance.

Activity panel showing a Chase statement processing, with the current stage and elapsed time.
The activity panel names the stage and the seconds elapsed, so a long statement never looks stuck.
  4. 04

    Check the rows

Anything the parse read differently than you would is flagged before you open the file. Inside, review the ledger beside the statement page, filter to what you care about, and correct it.

The statement workspace: parsed rows on the left, the source PDF on the right, one row boxed in both.
The row under review, boxed in the ledger and in the statement page it was read from.
  5. 05

    Export

XLSX for Excel, CSV for Xero or Sage, or an OFX/QBO file QuickBooks imports directly.

Export dialog with Excel selected, the field list on the right, and a live preview of the rows.
Excel selected, the columns chosen and ordered, and the rows previewed before the file is written.

Before you convert

How to download your Wells Fargo statement

Statements live behind Wells Fargo Online, and business accounts behind Business Online.

  1. 1

Sign on to Wells Fargo Online

Enrolment in online statements is what puts the archive in front of you; paper-only accounts have nothing to download.

  2. 2

    Open Statements & Documents

Business customers find the same section inside Wells Fargo Business Online, under their company profile.

  3. 3

Choose the account and the statement period

Statements are listed by closing date for each enrolled account.

  4. 4

Save the PDF with a name you will recognise

Give it the account and period (account, month, year) so a folder of a dozen statements is still legible next quarter.

How far back the archive goes depends on the product: deposit accounts keep several years of statements online, while credit cards, lines of credit, and loans keep noticeably less. Anything you have already saved converts regardless of what is still showing online.

Why this beats retyping the month

Two columns become one number

The printed deposits and withdrawals columns are merged into a single signed Amount, so a SUM is the net movement instead of two totals you subtract by hand.

Ending daily balance kept out

The daily balance summary is used to verify the parse and excluded from the default export, because summing it is the classic way a converted statement ends up wrong.

Long ACH narrations kept whole

A description that wraps across printed lines lands in one Narration cell with its reference intact, and the merchant is resolved into its own column.

Business accounts and several statements

Upload a year across multiple accounts and export one sheet; the Source column names the statement and account behind each row.

Old PDFs convert like new ones

The parse reads the file, not your banking session, so a statement saved years ago converts exactly like this month's.

Scans and photographs

Image-only pages go through OCR before parsing, which is what makes a client's emailed scan usable rather than something to retype.

What converts, and what you get back

StatementWhat comes out
Personal checking and savingsEvery deposit, withdrawal, transfer, and fee as one signed row, reconciled against the printed ending balance.
Business checkingThe same, plus an account column so several company accounts can share one sheet.
Credit cardsPurchases as debits, payments as credits, interest and fees categorized separately.
Lines of credit and loansAdvances, payments, and interest, with the narration preserved for anything unusual.
Statement PDFs from any yearAnything you have saved converts, including periods no longer listed in Wells Fargo Online.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I convert a Wells Fargo statement to Excel?

Save the statement PDF from Statements & Documents in Wells Fargo Online, upload it, let it parse and reconcile, review the rows against the page, then export as XLSX. Amounts arrive as signed numbers and dates as date cells.

My statement is older than what Wells Fargo shows online. Can I still convert it?

Yes. The conversion works from the PDF itself, so anything in your archive converts even if the period has aged out of online banking. Only the download depends on the bank's retention window.

Do business statements work the same way?

Yes. Statements from Wells Fargo Business Online convert identically, and multiple company accounts can be uploaded together and exported into a single sheet with an account column.

Will the daily ending balance table be in my spreadsheet?

Not by default. It is read to verify that the transactions add up to the printed close, then left out so it cannot be mistaken for transaction rows. You can add it as a column if you want it.

Can I import the transactions into QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. Export OFX/QBO for QuickBooks Online or Desktop, or CSV for Xero, Sage, and most other ledgers. Categorize before exporting and the categories come with the rows.

How much can I convert for free?

New accounts get 50 free page credits with no card required, which covers several statements from upload through export.

Converting a statement from a different bank?

The same workspace, written up for the format each bank prints.

Convert the statements you already saved.

Upload a Wells Fargo PDF, verify the rows against the page, and download a spreadsheet that reconciles.
