Find the missing month in a stack of statements.
Drop in your exports and see which months are covered, missing, or overlapping.
Any mix of formats, in any order. Exports with balances give the most certain answer.
How a gap is decided
Dates can only suggest a gap. Balances prove one.
Balances that carry over
When one file's closing balance is the next file's opening balance, nothing is missing between them, even if the dates leave a week with no transactions. When they differ, something is missing, and the difference says how much.
Where balances come from
An OFX, QBO, or QFX file declares its closing balance. A CSV with a running balance column gives both ends. Opening and closing balance rows in a CSV are read too.
Dates when there is nothing else
A CSV without balances is judged by its first and last transactions. Those understate a statement's real period, so up to four days between files is treated as normal rather than reported as a gap.
Month by month
Each calendar month in the range is marked Covered, Partly, or Missing, which is the question a lender's checklist actually asks.
Overlaps too
Two files covering the same days are flagged with the dates they share, since those transactions are likely to be imported twice.
Any mix of formats
CSV, OFX, QBO, QFX, and QIF exports are read into the same shape, so a bank's CSV for one quarter and a converter's QBO for the next are compared directly.
Questions
- How do I check that I have every bank statement for a period?
- Drop every export for the period here at once. The month grid shows which months are covered, and each junction between files says whether the next file picks up where the last left off, using balances when the files have them.
- Why does it say a gap is judged from dates alone?
- Neither file carries a balance, so there is no way to prove continuity. A week without transactions is possible for a quiet account, so check the statement for those dates before concluding one is missing.
- Can I use it with PDF statements?
- Not directly: it reads the transaction files a bank or converter exports. Convert the PDFs first, or check the statement periods printed at the top of each PDF by eye.
- What counts as consecutive months for a mortgage application?
- Lenders usually ask for the most recent two to six months with no month missing between them. The exact number is set by the lender, so check the request; the month grid shows whether your set is unbroken.
- The files overlap. Is that a problem?
- Not for completeness, but importing both would count the shared days twice. The Duplicate Transaction Finder lists the shared rows and exports one clean set.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Everything is read and compared in your browser.

Continuity checked on every upload
Bankflow reconciles each statement against its own opening and closing balances as it reads it, so a missing page or month shows up before the numbers are used.
