How do I convert a JPG to a PDF?

Why is my photo sideways?

Some phones and cameras save photos sideways and rely on a tag to display them upright. This tool reads that tag, but if a photo still shows the wrong way in the preview, use the rotate buttons under it before making the PDF.

Does converting reduce image quality?

Not for JPG and PNG images that are not rotated: they are embedded unchanged. Rotated images and other formats are re-encoded once at high quality.

Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Only in a browser that can open HEIC, which is usually Safari. In other browsers, export the photo as JPEG first, or change the iPhone's camera format to Most Compatible.

What happens to your images

JPG and PNG, untouched

A JPG or PNG that needs no turning is placed into the PDF exactly as it is, byte for byte, so there is no second round of compression and no loss of quality.

Every other format, converted once

WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, and HEIC (where your browser can open them) are converted a single time: to PNG when they have transparency or are lossless, and to high-quality JPG otherwise.

Photos the right way up

Phones often store photos sideways with a note saying which way is up. Images are placed the way your phone shows them, and any still wrong can be turned with the rotate buttons.

Page sizes

Letter or A4 pages, turned landscape for wide images, with each image centred and fitted inside the margin. Small images are not blown up past their own size. Or give each page the same shape as its image.

In the order you want

Move images earlier or later, or sort them by file name, which puts photos named by date or number in sequence. Each image becomes one page.

Nothing uploaded
