The owner is the bookkeeper, on Sunday night.
In a business too small for a finance hire, the books are whatever the owner gets to after everything else. The statements pile up as PDFs, the questions that matter go unanswered because answering them means a spreadsheet nobody has time to build, and the first time anyone looks at the whole year is when the accountant asks for it. The expensive part is not the data entry. It is deciding whether to hire, or sign the lease, or take the contract, without knowing what the last six months cost to run.
How it works
From a folder of PDFs to a number you can decide on
- 01
Drop in every account you have
Business checking, the company card, the savings account the tax money sits in. PDF, CSV, and Excel files all go in the same way, several at once, and each is read without choosing a bank or a template first.

One import dialog for PDF, CSV, Excel, and JSON statements, several files at a time. - 02
Let it sort the spending
Transactions are categorized as they arrive and each narration is resolved to the business behind it, so a card line full of reference numbers reads as the supplier you actually paid.

Categories with the rules behind each one, and what those rules have already sorted. - 03
Fix the few it got wrong, once
Recategorize a transaction and turn the correction into a rule, so next month's statement from the same supplier lands in the right place without you. Your manual edits are protected from later automated passes.
- 04
Read the month, then the runway
The cash flow view shows income against spending month by month, where the money flows, and how long the current balance lasts at today's burn, on essentials only, and with no income at all.

Balance today, monthly surplus, and how many months the runway covers. - 05
Hand the accountant a file, not a shoebox
Export the year as Excel or CSV, or as an OFX or QBO file QuickBooks imports directly, already categorized the way you have been reading it all year.
What a finance function would have given you
Three runway figures
Net runway at your current burn, essentials only, and full burn with no income: the floor and the ceiling, not a single optimistic number.
Every supplier by name
Narrations are resolved to merchants, with each one's monthly spend and transactions a click away. The subscriptions you forgot about are easy to find.
Rules that learn your vendors
Match on phrases, exclude on others, scope to one merchant. A rule runs on every future statement and, if you ask, across everything already imported.
What-if before you commit
Stress-test a lost client or a large one-off expense against your own history before committing to it, and see where the balance heads.
Statements that arrive by themselves
Forward the bank's statement emails to a private import address and they parse on arrival. No login to your mailbox is ever requested.
Exports your accountant can use
Excel, CSV, OFX, QBO, or a layout for Xero, Sage, MYOB, or NetSuite, scoped to the accounts and months they asked for.
FAQ
Common questions
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. Bankflow reads the statements themselves, so there is no bank login to share and no feed to break. That also means it works for accounts that are closed and months your bank's feed never reached.
I don't know accounting. Will the categories make sense to me?
Categories are plain labels like Software, Travel, or Payroll, and you can rename them, add your own, or split them into subcategories. Nothing needs a chart of accounts to be useful here.
How is the runway worked out?
From your balance and the income and spending in the statements you uploaded. Runway at current burn, essentials only, and with no income are shown side by side, so you can see the range rather than one figure.
Can I keep business and personal accounts apart?
Yes. Statements can be grouped into folders, and individual transactions such as transfers or personal spending can be excluded from cash flow totals without being deleted.
Will this replace my accountant?
No, and it is not trying to. It gets the books into a state your accountant can work from, and gives you a clear read of the business between their visits.
What does it cost to try?
New accounts get 50 free page credits with no card, which is enough to load a few months of statements and see your own numbers before paying for anything.
